About Department

The Department of Urdu was established in 1960. The Department of Urdu main objective is to spread awareness about Literacy and cultural importance and relevance of Urdu.It’s aim to promote the Urdu language as the language of knowledge and Urdu literature as the Literature of values especially human values that can with stand and buffeting forces of time. It aims at carrying act original research to develop the field of knowledge. The Department offers M.A in Urdu.

The thrust research areas of the Department are:-
  • The study of Modern Language and Literature / Culture
  • Linguistic, Translation and New approaches in the field of Literacy criticism.

The dawn of 21st Century has brought in its wake a number of new challenges and no institution of higher learning can ever afford to ignore them if it really intends to grow not only as a seat of higher learning but also as a centre of excellence. We also know that in this age of cut throat competitions, particularly when education has become a commercial enterprise, outmoded streams of knowledge and archaic methods of teaching can no longer guarantee an honourable existence to an individual or Institution. Hence the need for new streams of knowledge on the one hand and new techniques of teaching methodology on the other are the Pre-requisite for success.

The Department therefore, envisions and envisages the following prospective plans for the next five years:

  • The Department envisages to introduce new Courses during the next five years
  •         1. One Year Diploma in Urdu Poetics.
            2. Courses in comparative studies.
  • Innovations in teaching methodology
  • Cafeteria approach
  • Projects to be undertaken:
  • The Department also intend to undertake individually or collectively the following projects of contemporary relevance during the next five years:-

    • Role of Electronic Media in the Development of Urdu Language and literature.
    • Development of Urdu language and literature in Europe and America.
    • Projection of new western literary trends (After 1980) in Urdu literature.
    • Comparative Studies:- Indo-European Drama, Indo-European Fiction, Indo-European Literary Criticism, Indo-American Literature, Indo-Russian and Indo-Japanese Literature.
  • Strengthening of Research Facilities
  • National and International Seminars
  • Orientation Programmes and Refresher Courses
  • Computer Application
  • Major consideration addressed by above Goals:

    The goals envisioned and given above, if translated into actions would definitely help achieve intellectual and academic growth of the faculty members, scholars and students and enrich the overall academic atmosphere of the Department. These goals would encourage scholars to select subjects for research that have potential to generate new knowledge in the stream concerned. This would also prove conducive to the prospects of consultancy and extension activities of the Department. The students would throng the Department for gaining competence in the fields that are offered nowhere else.

Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.
