About Department

Department of Biotechnology at Jamshedpur Women’s University was established in 2005. Undergraduate Courses (3 years Hons. Degree) were started from 2005 and Postgraduate Courses (2 years Masters Degree) from 2020. The department of Biotechnology has well equipped laboratories for conducting practical classes. Biotechnology is priori an interdisciplinary pursuit. The most exciting and potentially profitable facts of new biotechnology in the decades will involve R & D at the very frontiers of current knowledge and techniques. The fruits of Biotechnology research have wide range of applications. In fact there is no other branch of science which has as many applications as Biotechnology. Biotechnology has benefited medical and health sciences (diagnostic, vaccines, therapeutics, foods) agricultural sciences (improved crop yield, food quality and improved animal health) and environmental sciences (pollution control, environmental monitoring, bioremediation etc.)

In order to choose any of the career option offered by Biotechnology the students should have passed 10+2 level with Science faculty followed by completion of a B.Sc degree in Biotechnology. Students can further pursue Masters in Biotechnology and Ph.D Programme.

Jamshedpur Woman’s University offers Biotechnology

• B.Sc. Hons 3 years semester wise full time program. Eligibility for this course is 10+2 Science (Biology, Physics, Chem) with minimum 45% marks.
• M.Sc Biotechnology 2 years semester wise full time program. Eligibility for this course is B.Sc. with (Biotechnology/Botany/Zoology/Agriculture Science/Biochmistry/Microbiology/Veterinary ) with minimum 50% marks.

Students are placed as Microbiologist in Hospital, Beverage companies (Coca cola , Pepsi etc. ) and in R&D of Biotechnology Companies (Serum Institute of India, Panacea Biotech. Ltd., Bharat Serum, Dr. Reddy Lab. Ltd, Sun Pharma , Shantha Biotech. etc. ).
