University Department of Master in Library & Information Science
About Department
In response to the demand for a large number of trained personnel in
libraries, documentation and information centers, for various positions
particularly medium and junior level positions in Jharkhand, one year (BLISc)
Bachelor of Library and Information Science course was lunched in the year
2010.
To carter demand in the market and willingness to get a Master degree by
the students, Bachelor of Library and Information Science course was
replaced with Master of Library and information Science course. Jamshedpur
Woman’s College, introduced two years integrated Master degree course in
Library and Information Science (MLISc.) as a regular course in the year 2012.
Which was for the first time in academic realm of this state. This self-
financing professional regular course is meant to meet the demand of
libraries of the state by producing well trained library professionals. By
pursuing this course, students of Jharkhand get opportunities to compete in
the job market and work in any modern libraries and allied professions.

- To produce competent information professionals who can facilitate the flow of information in a rapidly changing society.
- To inculcate interest among the students and develop the Information professional competency for better management of Library & Information Centres and fulfil the gap of digital divide.
Objective
- To adopt time-bound delivery of course corrculum.
- To deliver outcome-based professional education.
- To nurture industry-institution collaboration leading to competency enhancement.
- To develop professionals through holistic education focusing on all round growth, discipline, ethics and social sensitivity.
- To strengthen the adoption of latest information technology in course curriculum for holistic growth of students.
